Incarcerating US explores the purpose of prison and the criminal justice system in the U.S. With 2.3 million people behind bars, the U.S. has more prisoners than anywhere else in the world.

By looking at the personal experiences of people involved with the prison system and interviews with experts this film illustrates why so many agree the system is unfair and counterproductive. It will explore the vested interests that benefit from the current model and reveal how they act as a barrier obstructing reform efforts.

There is no denying that government has limited resources for law enforcement, prosecution, and incarceration. Going after victimless crimes diverts these resources from those that are truly a danger to society.

This film will differ from others on this topic by looking at the big picture rather than a narrow aspect of the criminal justice system. It will give viewers the opportunity to step back and evaluate the prison system in the U.S. with a historical perspective looking at empirical evidence and facts.
